If you are interested in study, research, or teaching abroad look no further. In addition to the Sciences Po Exchange in Paris we are in our thrid year of the very successful Montpellier Graduate Student Exchange Program.
For undergraduates with experience in both business and French, CIFS administers the French Business Internship Program, in which students receive UW credit while working as a summertime intern in a French business.
Moreover, CIFS coordinates two programs made available annually by the French government: the Chateaubriand Scholarship, for students pursuing doctoral research in topics related to France, and the French Language Assistant Program, in which Americans teach conversational English in French schools. As additional funding and travel opportunities become available, they will be listed on this page.

Chateaubriand Scholarship
The Chateaubriand Scholarship Program, named after the eighteenth century French writer, is a prestigious fellowship awarded annually by the French Government to about 20 American doctoral candidates. The award, which is designed to foster Franco-American academic partnerships and relationships, allows dissertators to conduct research in France. The award carries a generous stipend plus travel expenses.
French Business Internships
For better than a dozen years, the Department of French and Italian and the School of Business have been active in the assignment of students to internship positions in French companies and organizations. To date, approximately 150 students have taken part in the program, which is designed to allow each participant to interact with the French industrial, commercial and business community at the highest practical level. A UW-Madison student in any discipline may apply to the French Business Internship Program.
Sciences Po Exchange Program
